Yet another typical Hong Kong movie starring Hong Kong stars (Andy Lau) and which action takes place in Ancient Chinese times, under the “Three Kingdoms” times when China had lost political unity. The story is about wonderful warrior Zhao Zilong, originally a plain anonymous soldier who became the emperor top-notch general after a long life spent on the battlefield, and who will have to deliver his last fight along with his mate Luo Ping An whom he knows since he joined the army but who didn’t meet success, victory and recognition the way Zhao Zilong did. Directed by Daniel Lee, this movie is rather good but, to my view, resembles a lot similar “ancient times movies” such as The Banquet for example. In particular, there is this same strong focus on moments of complete silence in the middle of action scenes, during which the characters stay still, or move in slow motion, like out of time, before reality strikes back and the motion comes back to normal. Fights are not expected to be realistic but aesthetic. You can find the plot details on Wikipedia. Three Kingdoms is currently on screen, and to be found soon in VCD!
