April 5, 2008Shanghai: Pudong skyline seen from the Bund

Elsewhere in Asia.. is Shanghai, China’s booming city (over 20 million inhabitants). This picture is an original shot (as always on the Hong Kong blog) taken from the The Bund and looking towards the East and the booming Pudong territory where skyscrapers are growing at an extremely fast rate. A few years ago, only the Oriental Pearl Tower (antenna: 468m) and the Jin Mao Tower (88 floors & 421m) used to stand up on the other side of the Huangpu river, whereas now the Jin Mao is being challenged by a newcomer (the Shanghai World Financial Center: 492m when finished) and more and more skyscrapers are under construction. Will Pudong look like Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour skyline in five years?
