April 12, 2008Beijing: the Great Wall

This week, “Elsewhere in Asia” will show you the Great Wall! The picture above was taken from Badaling, one of the most visited sections of the Great Wall. As can be seen on this picture, the slope is rather steep and sometimes quite slippery. When crowded, I do believe that if one people falls down all the people him will slip down too, especially in winter when the Great Wall is icy. Once on the Great Wall, the walk leads you up and down the hills on several miles, crossing the gates one after the other. No view of Beijing from Badaling (we’re too far away from the city) but a nice view on the mountains. Souvenirs can be bought on the Great Wall and at the entrance of the Badaling section.
