Hard Boiled

This week’s culture post introduces another John Woo’s masterpiece starring Chow Yun Fat and Tony Leung: Hard Boiled (辣手神探). As for A Better Tomorrow, Hard Boiled belongs to the Heroic Bloodshed genre: don’t expect too realistic fights for John Woo rather focuses on slow motion and profusion of bullets and corpses. The story depicts a unusual cop (Chow Yun Fat as inspector Tequila Yuen) investigating on triads’ business with the help of an undercover. The most famous part of the movie is about a massive assault led on a hospital which underground is supposed to be the triads’ main storage center. The plot is ok but the movie must be seen for its action scenes. Hong Kong movie lovers, this is a must-have movie!
